Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by just one run in the 14th match of the Indian Premier League. The match took place at the Feroz Shah Kotla (Arun Jaitley Stadium) in Delhi on Wednesday, April 8. The game came right down to the wire, with two runs needed off the last two deliveries, when DC's David Miller turned down the chance to take a single. Faced with the challengw of taking two runs off the last ball to Prasidh Krishna, Miller then missed the pull shot and got Kuldeep Yadav run out in the process of sneaking in a bye.
The experienced South African should have taken a single off the penultimate ball. That would have assured the tie, and there would have been no pressure on DC. GT batted first in this game. They put up a massive total of 210-4 on the board, thanks largely to captain Shubman Gill, who top-scored with 70 off just 45 deliveries. The India Test captain struck four boundaries and five sixes during his stay at the crease, and was helped out by steely knocks from Jos Buttler (52) and Washington Sundar (55). Mukesh Kumar was the most successful bowler for DC, ending with figures of 2-55.
The reply started strongly, with Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul both going strong and building a 76-run partnership. The former eventually departed for 41 off just 24 deliveries, but Rahul kept going till the end, until he got out caught behind for a well-crafted 92 that came off 52 balls. None of the other DC batters put up a fight, save Miller, whose 20-ball unbeaten 41 eventually went in vain. Rashid Khan was the most successful bowler for GT, returning with 3-17 in his quota of four overs. The leg-spinner showed bite and bowled in the right areas all evening. He was economical throughout his spell, showing glimpses of his best form. It can be said that he thoroughly deserved the Player of the Match award.
