2nd T20I Preview between India and the West Indies in Ranchi (09.10.2026)

The juggernaut now moves to the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi, where India will host the West Indies in the second T20I of the series on Friday, October 9. The Windies, having won the final ODI of the preceding series, were full of confidence coming into the T20Is, but were handed a rude shock in the first match in Lucknow. The Indians showed their true colours with a convincing eight-wicket victory, with captain Shreyas Iyer's maiden T20I ton helping them chase down a stiff target of 172.

The West Indies will now have to work hard to come back into this series. If they lose here as well, they will concede momentum to their hosts. Although the series is five games long, the Windies will be unable to mount a return to the fold if they do not compete on level terms with India in Ranchi. Their middle order has to come to the party more often, and their bowlers need to deliver more consistently if they are to challenge their hosts. India's bowling department is their sole weakness, and the West Indies have to make use of that.

Predicted Teams

IND: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer (c), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Naman Dhir, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mayank Yadav.

WI: Shai Hope (c) (wk), Kamil Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde, Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Springer, Shamar Joseph.

Key Players

Shivam Dube (IND): Shivam Dube's role with the bat for India in the lower middle order is critical. The southpaw is among the best sloggers in world cricket and can tear into any spinner on his good day. Although Dube did not get to bat in the first match in Lucknow, he can be a dangerous option for the Indians when he walks out to bat in the middle or death overs. Dube's long levers ensure that he can convert even a good-length delivery into one that has been pitched in the slot. The Mumbai player is very comfortable against pace, too, and can use the pull and hook. While he was seen as being a little uncomfortable against seamers in the past, Dube has worked hard on his game to make sure that he develops strokes against balls pitched at a hard length.

Akeal Hosein (WI): Spinner Akeal Hosein offers a lot of options to the West Indies, especially with the new ball. The left-arm orthodox spinner is one of those rare bowlers who are equally comfortable when the ball is new or old. In Lucknow, Hosein was the only bowler who conceded less than ten runs per over for the Windies. Now, his captain, Shai Hope, will look to him to deliver in Ranchi as well. Hosein is not a conventional spinner in the sense that his deliveries tend to skid through and go away from the left-hander. He can be handy at the death, too, since he can bowl at a decent pace and prevent opposition batters from freeing their arms.

Match Prediction

India have the upper hand in this encounter. They have already shown how good they are with their victory in the first match, and are expected to continue in the same form. India are the best side in the world, as they are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup. Led by Shreyas Iyer, the Men in Blue also won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games recently. The West Indies, despite having won the T20 World Cup twice, do not have as much pedigree or as good form as the Indians.
