BCCI Unveils India’s Squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the 15-member squad that will represent the country in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The cricketing extravaganza will start on October 5 in India. The first match will be a clash between defending champions England and New Zealand. It will unfold at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The International Cricket Council had directed ten participating teams to submit their respective squads by September 5.

Rohit Sharma, a stalwart of the cricketing world, continues to lead the Indian team. The dynamic Hardik Pandya acts as his deputy for this high-profile ICC event. The World Cup squad closely mirrors the set of players representing India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 campaign.

Key players such as Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer, who have recovered from their injuries. They will take part in the ODI World Cup following their inclusion in the squad for the Asia Cup. The selection panel has also shown faith in the experienced bowling duo of Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami.

However, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who served as the traveling reserve during the Asia Cup, did not make it to the World Cup squad.

India's pursuit of a historic World Cup victory begins on October 8. On this day, they will face the five-time champions, Australia, at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The India-Pakistan showdown will occur on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
