Everything You Need to Know about the Indian Cricket Team’s Upcoming Matches in 2026!

The Indian cricket team are currently preparing to go on a short tour of Sri Lanka, where they will play two Tests, starting on August 15. The second match of the series, to be played in the capital city of Colombo, will end by August 27, after which India have a break for about a month or so before hosting the West Indies. These upcoming games will test the Indian side well, especially after they beat Zimbabwe 3-0 in the recently concluded T20I series. The victory over Zimbabwe will feel especially sweet to the Indians given that they were whitewashed 0-2 by Ireland and 0-4 by England earlier. India, who also tasted defeat in the three-match ODI series to England, will next play a series in this format against the West Indies at home.

The men from the Caribbean will play three ODIs and five T20Is in India, starting on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram and ending on October 17 in the Information Technology capital city of Bengaluru. Less than a week after this series, the Indians will embark on a long tour of New Zealand, where they will play five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests. The Kiwis will host India in the first T20I in Christchurch on October 22, while the last Test of the series will also be played in the same city till December 1. There will be very little rest for India after this, as Shubman Gill's men look to prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup by welcoming familiar foes Sri Lanka to their shores.

The Lankans will take part in a three-ODI and three-T20I series with India, which starts on December 17 in Delhi and ends on December 27 in the western city of Pune. The ODI series against Sri Lanka is likely to feature former India captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom are vying for spots in the World Cup squad. Both these veterans, who have had celebrated careers, delivered for India in their recent series loss to England, but are still not guaranteed berths for the World Cup. Their form, fitness and temperament will be scrutinised in detail by the selectors.
