The Indian cricket team is among the best in the world. They showed their strength across all three formats - Tests, ODIs and T20Is - and answered why they deserve to be given such accolades in 2025. This year, the Men in Blue displayed immense character, courage and bravery to put up scintillating performances that lit up the hearts of their fans.
In this article, we will take a look at some of the best games India played this year:
September - Asia Cup Final vs Pakistan
The final of the Asia Cup in September this year was, by far, the best match played by India. They were playing against arch-rivals Pakistan for the third time in this tournament, and the stakes were high. Pakistan batted first and got all out for 146. In response, India lost early wickets and were 20-3 inside four overs. However, southpaw Tilak Varma scored an unbeaten 69 to take his team over the line and etch a memorable win over their nemesis in a winner-takes-all contest.
August – 5th Test vs England
India toured England for a five-Test series this summer and drew it 2-2. They went into the final Test at the Oval in London, being down 1-2 in the series (one match was drawn), and desperately needing a victory to stay alive. They scored 224 in the first innings, to which England responded with 247. In the second dig, Yashasvi Jaiswal's 118 helped India set a 374-run target for their hosts. England, while chasing, were cruising at 332-4 before losing six wickets for just 35 runs, and handing India a six-run victory.
October – 1st Test vs West Indies
The West Indies came to India for a two-Test series in October and were given typical treatment by their hosts. The Windies scored 162 in the first innings of the first Test in Ahmedabad, to which India responded with a gigantic 448, led by Dhruv Jurel's 125, Ravindra Jadeja's 104 and KL Rahul's 100. The visitors capitulated meekly for just 146 in their second innings, handing India a massive victory by an innings and 140 runs. India also won the second Test in Delhi, pocketing the series 2-0.
October – 3rd ODI vs Australia
The third ODI against Australia in Sydney in October this year was an iconic one for all Indian fans. Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are playing just one format now, were under constant scrutiny for their performances. And both of them delivered big time at this hallowed ground. Set a target of 237 to chase by their hosts, India rode on Sharma's unbeaten 121 and Kohli's 74 not out to pick up their sole victory in the series. Australia eventually won the series 2-1.
December – 3rd ODI vs South Africa
Another fine performance came from the Sharma-Kohli duo in the final ODI of their home series against South Africa in Visakhapatnam in December. South Africa batted first and were bowled out for 270. India, in response, got off to an electric start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sharma building a 155-run opening stand. Sharma eventually got out for 75, but Kohli, who walked out at number three, scored an unbeaten 65, which complemented Jaiswal's 116 not out.
