Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off an epic chase to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in the 47th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, May 4. LSG, last in the table, batted first in this encounter. They put up an imposing total of 228-5 on the board in their quota of 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh (44) and Nicholas Pooran (63) starred for LSG in the top order, while Aiden Markram (31*) and Himmat Singh (40*) did well to finish their innings.
The LSG innings got off to a flyer. They made the most of the fielding restrictions by getting to 90-1 at the end of six overs. Only Corbin Bosch was able to pick up two wickets for MI at the end of the innings, with even Jasprit Bumrah conceding 45 runs in his four overs. In response, MI got off to an even better start, with openers Ryan Rickelton (83) and Rohit Sharma (84) proving that no challenge was too high for their side.
Sharma, coming into the side after a long injury lay-off, was exquisite in his timing and hit six fours and seven sixes during his stay at the crease. Towards the end of the innings, Naman Dhir (23*) and Will Jacks (10*) ensured that MI chased their target down inside 19 overs, with eight balls to spare and six wickets in hand. Manimaran Siddharth was the most successful bowler for LSG. He picked up two wickets but also conceded 47 runs in his four overs. This was just the third victory for MI this season, and they are currently ninth in the table, followed by LSG, who are last.
