Rain Plays Spoilsport As Second Test Match Between West Indies and India Ends in a Draw

The second Test match between West Indies and India at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad ended in a draw after persistent rain spoiled the final day of play. India were in a position of authority at the end of Day four. However, rain interrupted the final day of play, forcing the two captains to shake hands.

India started the match on a great tone as they posted a massive total of 438 on a slow track. The Indian batting was led by Virat Kohli, who scored his 29th Test ton, a masterful innings of 121. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal had set the tone early on as they scored 80 and 57 respectively, sharing a 139-run opening stand between them. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin also enjoyed a great batting outing, with both of India's Premier spinners scoring fifties. As far as the West Indies bowling goes, Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican claimed three wickets each.

Talking about West Indies' batting, the hosts came up with a better batting performance than the first Test. Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul put on an opening stand of 71, with the former making his way to an individual contribution of 75. Chanderpaul scored 33, and Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze also contributed well with 33 and 37 runs respectively. However, the hosts lacked another big knock like that of Brathwaite and they were finally bowled out for 255, with Mohammed Siraj registering brilliant bowling figures of 5/60.

India batted next to extend their lead of 183 runs. They came out with flying colours once again. Openers Sharma and Jaiswal shared a 98-run stand this time; it came to an end when Rohit got dismissed for a well-made 57. Jaiswal followed soon for an individual contribution of 38 runs. In quest for quick runs, Ishan Kishan was sent at No.4 instead of Kohli. The wicketkeeper-batter made his way to a superb maiden Test fifty, remaining unbeaten on 52 off just 34 deliveries. The youngster batted fearlessly, smashing four fours and a couple of sixes.

West Indies were set a target of 365 to chase and they reached a position of 76/2 until rain started interrupting. The match could well have been India's once again, but the rain didn't allow them to take the whole cake home. As a result, India had to satisfy themselves with a 1-0 series win only, as they won the first Test match quite comprehensively.
